Haewai Meadery

Haewai is one of New Zealand's few contemporary producers of traditional mead. Our mead is made the old-fashioned way, crafted in an unhurried manner and allowed to mature before we bottle it for sale. We don't try to speed up the process by heating and chilling or adding enhancers and flavourings as we believe that those procedures can negatively compromise the natural qualities of the product; its bouquet and taste. If you'd like to try mead as a healthy alternative to wine, you have come to the right place. 'Haewai' is the Maori name for Houghton Bay, where we are located. Translated it means 'light reflecting on water'.
